Internationally Acclaimed Pianist to Play Grieg Piano Concerto at Next MSO Romantic Era POPS! Concert – Featuring Beethoven, Grieg and Brahms
MANITOWOC, WI, March 17, 2023 – The Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra will offer a big finale to its season with a celebratory concert of three of the most beloved Romantic Era POPS! composers in history: Beethoven, Grieg and Brahms. Tickets are now on sale for the concert, which will be performed at the Capitol Civic Centre on Saturday, April 15, 7:30pm under the musical direction of Dylan ChmuraMoore. This performance will be a night to remember with guest Dr. Eli Kalman gracing the stage to play one of the most highly regarded concertos of all time: the Grieg Piano Concerto. Internationally acclaimed pianist, Eli Kalman, is a performer, recording artist and scholar who has performed extensively in Romania, Israel, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Canada and the United States – including Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Dr. Kalman is renowned for his exceptional technique and vibrant music making. Leaning into the Romantic Era POPS!, the MSO will also perform Fidelio, Beethoven’s only opera. Fidelio, premiered in Vienna in 1805, is oft heralded as a celebration of freedom and tells the epic story of the triumph of marital love where the heroine disguises herself as a lad (the eponymous Fidelio) in order to rescue her husband. Fidelio is a piece inspired by liberty and devotion that gives us comfort and courage. This is a performance not to be missed! And, for the first time, the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra will perform Brahms Second Symphony with a finale considered to be one of the most rousing and brilliant in all of classical music. True to Brahm’s hallmarks, the Second Symphony is incredibly intricate with musical complexity. The piece is described as, “All rippling streams, blue skies, sunshine and cool green shadows,” and will be the perfect spring prescription following a snow-filled March. It promises to be a great show! Join the MSO immediately following the performance for an AfterGlow reception at the Stage Door Pub (701 Franklin Street) with cash bar, drink specials and complimentary snacks. $1.00 of each specialty drink will be donated back to the MSO. It’s an opportunity to mingle with MSO musicians, board, staff, and supporters. ABOUT MSO: Manitowoc, Wisconsin is one of the smallest cities to have its own symphony orchestra.
