Manitowoc, WI, August 23, 2021—Manitowoc Public Library’s August 2021 Children’s Programs are a combination of In-Person, Grab & Go Kits, and Virtual Events.
 
Collection Obsession: Barb Bundy-Jost’s “American Gothic” Through Thursday, September 2
What began as a lighthearted parody Polaroid picture of Barb Bundy-Jost and her husband taken in front of their newly-acquired farmhouse soon blossomed into a full blown "Collection Obsession" with Grant Wood's "American Gothic." Over the next thirty years, Barb's "American Gothic" collection has grown to contain hundreds of pieces. She'll be sharing the choicest of these fascinating pieces with the public during "Collection Obsession,'" on display at Manitowoc Public Library through Thursday, September 2. Join us in the celebration and walk away with “American Gothic” eyes!
 
Farm Wisconsin: Free Kids Admission                                                       Saturdays in September
Every Saturday in September, Farm Wisconsin is granting FREE kids' admission (with the purchase of at least one adult admission) when you show your Library Card! Adults must remain with children at all times.
 
United Way: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Grab & Go Bags  Through Thursday, September 30. United Way Manitowoc County’s diversity, equity and inclusion kits cover a variety of topics including kindness, our differences and similarities, disabilities, where skin tone comes from, and more. They're perfect for young, preschool to elementary school-aged children and include a variety of stories, activities, and goodies. Bags are available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last! Bags can be picked up at MPL’s Youth Services Desk!
 
Downtown Harvest Fest Story Walk                                                September 15-October 15
Enjoy a story as you stroll through downtown Manitowoc! Pick up your Grab & Go bag ahead of time at MPL’s Youth Desk to get a storywalk map! Find the special letter on each page to answer our mystery question and enter a raffle for Chamber Bucks! Visit each page in the book at a different business window—collect all the special letters on your map and return to the Library to enter a special raffle drawing! Bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. One bag per family, please.
 
Baby Storytime                                                                                          Wednesdays, 9:30 AM
Baby Storytime is 20 minutes of stories, songs, rhymes, bounces, parachute activities, and bubbles, followed by 20 minutes of playtime! Baby Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 0-2 and siblings are always welcome. All Library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Registration is not required.
 
Storytime                                                                                                    Thursdays, 9:30 AM
Join us in singing, talking, reading, creating, and playing at this inclusive Storytime for families with preschoolers. Storytime focuses on concepts such as life skills, counting, colors, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. Make a craft and stay and play after storytime! It's a great opportunity to meet new friends, socialize, and strengthen early literacy skills. Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 2-5 and siblings are always welcome. All library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Registration is not required.
 
Family Activity Nights (FANs)     Tuesdays, 6:30 PM (September 7 & 14) or 5:30 PM (September 21)
Family Activity Nights are BACK at Manitowoc Public Library! Each week, we’ll be doing something different and fun for the whole family! Geared toward ages 2-6, but older siblings are always welcome. Due to limited space, registration is required. Click on the “Events” tab at www.manitowoclibrary.org to see all the registration dates and details. Please note you must register for each event separately. Please check our Facebook page and event calendar for updates!
 

  • Farm Wisconsin!—September 7 The details are still being finalized for this evening’s event. But, whatever they are, it’s guaranteed to be a Farmtastic Time! Registration opens on Monday, August 30 at 5 PM.
  • Read to Certified Therapy Dogs—September 14 Studies show that children who read to animals, like our therapy dogs, gain confidence and improve their overall reading. Each family may register for one 15-minute one-on-one session with a therapy dog. Adults must accompany children under the age of 8 at all times. Please call 920-686-3030 or stop by the Youth Department to register starting Tuesday, August 31 at 5 PM.
  • Mini-Golf!—September 21 Play mini-golf in the library! Register for a family tee-time and putt your way through book stacks. Everyone is a winner! Stop at the Youth Desk or call 920-686-3030 to register! Registration opens Tuesday, September 7 at 5 PM.
 
Everything Under One Inch with Matt Welter                            Thursday, September 9, 6:00 PM
Join naturalist, Matt Welter, as he returns to MPL for a Virtual Program that takes the tiny things in nature you can find here in Wisconsin and enlarges them for a better look--from slime molds that look like ice cream cones, to cups that grow only on acorn shells, to bugs that turn leaves into lace. Matt's program will make you want to get out your magnifying glasses and macro lenses and head outside!

Learn & Play Angklung Workshop                                              Saturday, September 11, 1:00 PM
Learn about Indonesian culture and get hands-on experience playing the Angklung instrument! Angklung is a wonderful instrument that promotes creativity and teamwork. Before the workshop is over, we will learn how to play simple songs as a group. Geared toward children 6+. Adults must accompany children under the age of 8 at all times.
