Manitowoc, WI, August 22, 2023—Manitowoc Public Library’s September 2023 Children’s Programs are scheduled with the following events and dates:
Sunday Library Hours to Resume
Please be aware that Manitowoc Public Library will once again resume Sunday Hours of Operation on September 10, the Sunday following the Labor Day weekend. MPL’s Sunday Hours will be from 12-4 PM.
25 Years on Quay Throughout September
Help us celebrate 25 years at our beautiful Quay Street location! Take a walk down memory lane and view our historical display on the First Floor. Events and other information available at www.manitowoclibrary.org/25years.
Baby Storytime Wednesdays & Thursdays, 9:30 AM
Baby Storytime is 20 minutes of stories, songs, rhymes, bounces, parachute activities, and bubbles, followed by 20 minutes of playtime! Baby Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 0-2 and siblings are always welcome. All Library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Registration is not required.
Preschool Storytime Wednesdays & Thursdays, 10:30 AM
Join us in singing, talking, reading, creating, and playing at this inclusive Storytime for families with preschoolers. Storytime focuses on concepts such as life skills, counting, colors, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. It's a great opportunity to meet new friends, socialize, and strengthen early literacy skills. Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 2-5 and siblings are always welcome. All library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Registration is not required.
Messy Marvins Friday, September 8, 10-11:30 AM
Messy Marvins—it's baby art studio morning, baby!! We provide the supplies; you supply the creativity! Drop into the Balkansky Community Room any time from 10-11:30 AM on Friday, September 8, with your littles (babies to preschool age) for an inspirational artistic experience. Stay neat or get messy with our self-directed art stations and create a masterpiece to take home.
Family Activity Nights (FANs) Tuesday Evenings
Join us Tuesday evenings at Manitowoc Public Library for something different and fun for the whole family! Typically geared toward ages 2-6, we’re going about things a bit differently this month, so make sure to read the descriptions for both evenings to get an accurate picture of what will be taking place. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. No registration is required for either September FAN! Please check our Facebook page and event calendar for updates!
- Mini Masterpieces Workshop—September 12, 6:30-7:30 PM Show off your artistic abilities by creating an original work of art. All ages (5 and up) are welcome to join us for a short discussion of art styles and color theory, followed by time to begin working on your masterpiece. If you cannot attend in person, kits may be picked up at any MPL Service Desk starting on Wednesday, September 13 (quantities are limited). Completed artwork that is returned to the library by Thursday, September 21, will be eligible to be part of the Mini Masterpieces Art Show on Tuesday, September 26.
- Mini Masterpieces Art Show—September 26, 6:30-7:30 PM Join us for our first Mini Masterpieces Art Show! View artwork created by our patrons. Dress as your favorite artist to be part of the costume contest. Enjoy live music, snacks, and take pictures at our photo ops.
Resources for Homeschoolers Friday, September 15, 1-2 PM
Homeschoolers and all families are welcome to attend this engaging introduction to the Library's free resources and online tools in the Balkansky Community Room on Friday, September 15, from 1-2 PM. Learn how to access books, magazines, databases, and more to assist with homework, projects, and research.
Read to Certified Therapy Dogs Tuesday, September 19, 6:30 PM
Studies show that children who read to animals, like our therapy dogs, gain confidence and improve their overall reading. Each family may register for one 15-minute one-on-one session with a therapy dog. Adults must accompany children under the age of 8 at all times. Please call 920-686-3030 or stop by the Youth Services Department to sign up starting Tuesday, September 5, at 5 PM.
Birding 101 Monday, September 25, 6:30-7:30 PM
Bird watching is a fun activity for all ages. Join Jessica from Woodland Dunes Nature Center in the Balkansky Community Room when shows families the basics of bird watching. This program is provided through the support of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE-Region 4.
