Manitowoc, WI, August 22, 2023—Manitowoc Public Library’s Teen Services September 2023 programming is scheduled with the following events and dates:
Sunday Library Hours to Resume
Please be aware that Manitowoc Public Library will once again resume Sunday Hours of Operation on September 10, the Sunday following the Labor Day weekend. MPL’s Sunday Hours will be from 12-4 PM.
25 Years on Quay Throughout September
Help us celebrate 25 years at our beautiful Quay Street location! Take a walk down memory lane and view our historical display on the First Floor. Events and other information available at www.manitowoclibrary.org/25years.
Teen Hang Out—Build a Ghost! Thursday, September 7, 6-7:30 PM
Get your haunt on and help create a “life”-sized ghost to be displayed in the Library, as well as conjuring-up some ghost hands to take home. All materials will be provided for you to conjure-up some scary-good art in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room on Thursday, September 7, from 6-7:30 PM. Bringing along some gardening gloves would be helpful, but is most certainly not required. Treats provided, tricks discouraged.
Family Activity Nights (FANs) Tuesday Evenings
All ages are invited to join us for a pair of Tuesday evenings in September at Manitowoc Public Library for something that’s a little different and fun for everyone! While FANs are typically geared toward ages 2-6, we’re going about things a bit differently this month, so make sure to read the descriptions for both evenings to get an accurate picture of what will be taking place. No registration is required for either September FAN! Please check our Facebook page and event calendar for updates!
- Mini Masterpieces Workshop—September 12, 6:30-7:30 PM Show off your artistic abilities by creating an original work of art. All ages (5 and up) are welcome to join us for a short discussion of art styles and color theory, followed by time to begin working on your masterpiece. If you cannot attend in person, kits may be picked up at any MPL Service Desk starting on Wednesday, September 13 (quantities are limited). Completed artwork that is returned to the library by Thursday, September 21, will be eligible to be part of the Mini Masterpieces Art Show on Tuesday, September 26.
- Mini Masterpieces Art Show—September 26, 6:30-7:30 PM Join us for our first Mini Masterpieces Art Show! View artwork created by our patrons. Dress as your favorite artist to be part of the costume contest. Enjoy live music, snacks, and take pictures at our photo ops.
Volunteer Fair 2023 | Manitowoc Public Library
Thursday, September 14, 11 AM-2 PM
MPL invites all service groups and organizations that have a need for volunteers to join us in welcoming possible volunteers at this walk-in event on Thursday, September 14, from 11 AM until 2 PM. Organizations need to bring materials to share with prospective volunteers, and we will provide table space and chairs for all groups. Individuals looking to volunteer for one or more of our organizations should stop in and visit with any or all of the groups in attendance. Sign up on the spot or take info home and sign up once you decide. Organizations that wish to reserve a table, please call MPL's Volunteer Coordinator, Therese Horstketter, at 920-686-3044 or email thorstketter@manitowoc.org to sign up.
Resources for Homeschoolers Friday, September 15, 1-2 PM
Homeschoolers and all families are welcome to attend this engaging introduction to the Library's free resources and online tools in the Balkansky Community Room on Friday, September 15, from 1-2 PM. Learn how to access books, magazines, databases, and more to assist with homework, projects, and research.
Birding 101 Monday, September 25, 6:30-7:30 PM
Bird watching is a fun activity for all ages. Join Jessica from Woodland Dunes Nature Center in the Balkansky Community Room when shows families the basics of bird watching. This program is provided through the support of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, IEEE-Region 4.
Misako Rocks! A Manga Drawing Workshop @ Manitowoc Public Library Saturday, September 30, 1-2 PM
Misako Rocks! is a Japanese illustrator, comic strip artist, and youth graphic novel author. Misako left Japan at a young age and came to America in order to fulfill her dream of becoming an artist. Come learn about her journey when you join us for “Misako Rocks! A Manga Drawing Workshop.” This hands-on, super interactive, high-energy manga event for aspiring artists between the ages of 11 and 18—co-sponsored by Manitowoc Public Library and Manitowoc International Relations Association (MIRA)—will inspire participants to explore their creativity and push themselves outside of their comfort zone while guiding them to create their own original manga characters! We hope that you can join us for this step-by-step tutorial in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room from 1-2 PM on Saturday, September 30. Registration is required and opens at 5 PM on Friday, September 15.
