A series of fourteen free “Caring for People with Dementia” Webinars will be offered at Shady Lane. The eighth in the series will be May 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with subsequent topics continuing twice a month through August. These telecasts are live and allow participants to ask questions of noted experts. The series is part of a commitment that Shady Lane has made for on-going employee education through LeadingAge Wisconsin, a professional healthcare employee training company working in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Speaks, an advocacy group.
Theresa Patrick, Community Relations Director for Shady Lane explained that “although we do not have a dementia unit, anyone who works with older people needs to have an understanding of Alzheimers and dementia. We also felt that it was important to open this to the public as a way of supporting on-going elder education.” For additional information and reservations, which are required, contact Theresa Patrick, 682-8254.
Shady Lane, Manitowoc’s only private not-for-profit, citizen-directed care center, was founded in 1951. The facility includes three distinct units: Laurel Grove is an assisted living complex encompassing units from bedrooms to two-bedroom apartments; Shady Lane Nursing Care Center offers skilled care in an all private-room facility and Shady Lane Rehabilitation provides services in conjunction with HFM Rehab Services
