Featuring: Sgt. Bruce Jacobs, City of Manitowoc Police Department
Topic: Citizens Academy
The Manitowoc Police Department Citizens Academy is a ten week program covering various aspects of law enforcement. The Citizens Academy is designed to reach out to members of our community, and invite them to learn more about the Manitowoc Police Department. Academy classes are taught by personnel of the Manitowoc Police Department who are open, honest, and candid about their duties and experiences as a law enforcement officer. The goal of the Citizens Academy is to provide graduates with a working knowledge of the Manitowoc Police Department, and to strengthen community support and involvement with the department. Sergeant Bruce Jacobs will be telling us more about the Citizens Academy and answering any questions attendees may have.
Sergeant Bruce Jacobs is a 25 year veteran of the Manitowoc Police Department. He started his career in 1988 working as the Police Cadet and was promoted to Patrol Officer where he worked the mid night shift. He than moved to the afternoon shift for a short time before being promoted to the School Resource Officer at Wilson and Washington Jr. Highs. He also became a DARE Officer and began to teach the DARE program in the elementary schools. He spent the next 8 ½ years serving as SRO for the Manitowoc Public Schools Junior Highs and Elementary schools and other private schools. In 2001 he transferred to Lincoln High School where he stayed until 2006. He then went back to Wilson until 2008 when he was promoted to Crime Prevention Sergeant and DARE Coordinator. Sgt. Jacobs is in charge of many Crime Prevention programs designed to better educate the public on how not to be a victim and make our community a safer place. He also serves on the State Board for the Wisconsin State DARE Officers Association.
