The Safety, Health & Wellness Committee will be hosting an educational session on Now Trending: Building a Workplace Culture for Mental/Emotional Wellbeing on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Orion Energy Systems from 7-9am. The talks will include an overview of what
mental health in the workplace looks like and tools to help employers achieve a better mental/emotional health culture in the workplace.
Session Speakers:
Donna Firman, a successful retired business executive in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, has lived experience as a person with mental illness. She founded Mustard Seed Advisors where she worked as a social entrepreneur helping nonprofits raise money, drive operational excellence, and solve business problems that hold organizations back and prevent growth. Today, Donna is the Board President of NAMI Manitowoc County and is on the League of Women Voters Mental Health Committee, currently providing support for school based mental health services. NAMI Manitowoc County was recently awarded the prestigious Imagining Grant from the West Foundation, Inc. to pilot an innovative mental health program in Manitowoc County. Donna also serves on NAMI’s state-wide Public Policy and Advocacy Committee. She holds a BS in Business Administration from Northern Michigan University. Donna is a 2022 Athena award recipient and a 2023 NAMI Wisconsin Iris award recipient. |
Melissa Giebel is a wellness ambassador, community collaborator, advocate, family life services professional, creator, mom, and an individual with lived personal experience in mental/emotional health and addiction recovery. Melissa has 20 years of demonstrated group facilitation, program development, and community education for adults and children. Throughout her career, Melissa founded and organized a 5K for Bullying prevention reaching 2000 participants and raising over $23,000 for area schools in the Calumet County region. Melissa also co-founded and facilitated women and girls empowerment groups encouraging individuals to live their lives authentically in mind, body, and spirit. During Melissa’s tenure working at a domestic abuse program, Melissa led the Coordinated Community Response team, served as the Lethality Assessment Protocol Coordinator and Trainer for staff and community partners. In Melissa’s current role as a Health & Wellness Specialist with Prevea, Melissa completed an apprenticeship program to become a trainer through the National Empowerment Center for Emotional CPR. Melissa is a Certified Wellness Practitioner, Certified Nutrition Coach through the National Academy of Sport Medicine, and trained in Mental Health First Aid. Melissa holds a BS in Family Life Education through the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a MA degree in Family Life Sciences through Concordia University, St. Paul, MN. Melissa currently serves as a member of the Policy Council for Sheboygan County Head Start, a member of the Allies in Mental Health Education group for Chilton Public Schools and on various Prevea-wide committees committed to improving workplace culture and team engagement. |
