Say “I Love You” With a Singing Valentine

Leave your special someone speechless when four well-dressed gentlemen arrive with a rose and pour out a sweet, tender love song in gentle close harmony.

Throughout Manitowoc County, the Clipper City Chordsmen will be dispatching barbershop quartets to deliver romantic greetings on Valentine’s Day. They will join hundreds of barbershop quartets around the world who are ready to provide a unique Valentine gift. “It’s a gift that will never be forgotten”, said Paul Blair, member of Lake Effect Quartet.

In past year, the Barbershop Harmony Society estimates that at least 15,000 singing Valentines are delivered each year by over 1,000 quartets with deliveries taking place in many countries around the world.

“We deliver love songs in offices, in homes, in schools, at local gyms, and in stores; just about anywhere” says Lake Effect Quartet baritone, Don Lewellen. “Whenever we deliver a song, we try to convey the emotion of the person sending the gift.”

Quartets earn $50 for each delivery, and the revenue enables them to support music education for area youth and to continue to perform to groups throughout the year.

Most recipients are truly surprised by the gift of song, a rose, a chocolate kiss, and a personalized card. A digital photo is also taken for them to remember the event.

“Some of the most memorable deliveries have been to older individuals or couples, sent by their families” recalls Anthony Schreiter. “The tears of joy and of remembered youth are indescribable.”

The Clipper City Chordsmen will be delivering Valentines by advance order only. Deliveries can be scheduled between 8 AM and 8 PM on Friday, February 14th.

The Clipper City Chordsmen is an all male a cappella singing group pursuing the joy of singing and ringing chords in four-part harmony. Currently some 35 strong, the members come from all walks of life. The chapter is starting its 80th year as an organization in Manitowoc County. The group is involved in the community with many charitable and educational venues as well as entertainment.  They welcome guests at any rehearsal on Tuesday nights from 7-9 at Grow It Forward at 1501 Washington Street in Manitowoc.
