Accounting Manager
Position summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of Towsleys while
ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all accounting functions. This role combines strong
operational accounting leadership with higher-level financial oversight, including financial reporting,
budgeting support, internal controls, and strategic financial analysis.
The Accounting Manager will lead the accounting team, maintain compliance with applicable financial
regulations, and provide financial insight that supports sound business decision-making. This position plays a
key role in strengthening internal financial processes, improving reporting capabilities, and supporting
executive leadership with timely and accurate financial information.
Key responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Analyze financial data, identify trends and variances, and provide insights to support business decisions.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead and support the annual budgeting processes and development, monitoring, and revision of operating budgets and financial forecasts. Evaluate performance against budget and develop reforecasts for accurate projections.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee and manage all accounting processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, treasury management, and general ledger accounting. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Complete and oversee banking requirements and cash management activities.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Develop, analyze, document, and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and coordinate annual audits and serve as primary liaison with external auditors.
- Process Improvement and Risk Management: Monitor department workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and resource utilization. Support system improvements and process automation initiatives, including ERP/Accounting system optimization. Identify and assess financial risks, implement strategies to mitigate them, and ensure financial compliance.
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead, manage, and mentor the accounting and finance team. Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications and fostering a positive work environment.
- Strategic Support: Collaborate with executive management to align financial goals with business objectives and provide financial insight to support operational planning and business initiatives (including but not limited to special financial projects and strategic planning efforts)
- Other duties as assigned that will support the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with some managerial experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP or FRF for SMEs) and financial regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software (NetSuite) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality
- CPA, CMA, or advanced accounting certification preferred but not required
- Proven ability to maintain confidential information
