Workweek: During Market Season, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Optional hours during the remainder of the week. Total hours not to exceed 10 hours per week
Step/Grade: $15/hr
The Famers Market Intern supports the Market Manager in staffing the Market booth during the Market season. Other duties include assisting with promotion of the Market, communication with vendors, and staffing of the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) machine.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist the Market Manager with the promotion of the Farmers Market through the use of social media and other media channels
- Staff the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) machine at the Farmers Market information table to ensure that individuals/families are able to spend their FoodShare dollars at the Saturday market in Manitowoc
- Promote the requirement and value of accepting EBT to market vendors; answer questions regarding reimbursement process
- Ensure that all vendor booths display the proper signage including name/booth #, EBT, etc.
- Work with local and/or statewide UW-Extension FoodWIse staff to create outreach to individuals/families with access to FoodShare benefits, specifically promoting the local Double Bucks incentive program.
- Work with local agencies to develop an understanding of the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) vouchers, as well as other opportunities that may arise.
- Educate vendors and patrons about using WIC and Senior Vouchers at the market; provide guidance to vendors for reimbursement process through correct agency.
- Create public engagement activities throughout the market season including market tours, children’s activities, seasonal recipes/tastings, etc.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Basic understanding of the EBT and FoodShare programs, as well as other food-related benefit programs
- Proficiency in utilizing social media for promotion
- Basic knowledge of marketing principles and outreach strategies
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public
- Passion for farmers markets and a desire to provide exceptional products and services to the greater community
