JOB SUMMARY
Position Description:
The Library Media Specialist is responsible for maintaining a library program that supports the Mission Covenant, goals, and objectives of the school, and is an integral component of the school’s instructional program.

Ideal candidates should demonstrate commitment to faith, academics, and service while being strong role models. Candidates also will promote a positive, charitable spirit and nurture the school environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
● Instruct students and staff in effective use of the library, automated catalog, information and technology literacy skills, and copyright law.
● Provide academic support for all students.
● Evaluate, select, purchase, catalog, and process print and digital resources.
● Develop and maintain a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, students, staff, and the teaching and learning styles inherent within the school community.
● Provide reference services.
● Develop policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, services, and facility use of the school library.
● Recommend and procure resources for staff for use in their instructional objectives.
● Accept and respond to donations from stakeholders.
● Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
● Undertake professional development activities to ensure continued professional growth.

EXTRACURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
● Act as faculty adviser for the Creative Writing Program and the Menagerie publication. Plan and prepare for meetings (to take place during Jet block), collaborate with other Menagerie advisers and organize the Great Lakes Festival field trip.
● Act as faculty adviser for our theater program, including our technical booth. This would include selecting/planning all components of a show, directing the shows, leading auditions, leading read-throughs of scripts, organizing blocking of actors, breaking down scenes to develop characters, training and working with stage crew, scheduling cues for lighting and sound teams, overseeing full run of the show and attending shows, and working with our art and music teachers on various parts of the production.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Valid school library licensure, preferred, MLIS or similar, relevant degree may be considered.

Required Skills/Abilities:
● Willingness to instruct students and staff in information and technology literacy skills, including the research process.
● Knowledge of grade-level reading abilities, and appropriateness in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources.
● Knowledge of basic technology, including computer operation, productivity software, online catalog, SMART and/or Mimio technology, and basic network knowledge.
● Communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students, teachers, and parents.
● Knowledge of instructional methods, strategies and pedagogy, curriculum development processes, and learning theories.
● Leadership, organizational, and budget management skills.
● Ability to successfully interact with students and staff from various disciplines and with differing skill levels.

Physical Requirements:
● Possesses physical stamina required to remain standing, walking, and moving for long periods of time.
● Physically capable of bending, lifting, and carrying items or moving carts of at least 25 pounds.

Other Requirements:
● Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license, with no serious violations.
● Ability to use a computer with a working knowledge of Google Suite.
● Demonstration of faith commitment.
