Description / Scope / Mission
Direct and coordinate production people in the operation of production lines to produce quality products in an efficient manner. Handle minor troubleshooting of mechanical problems. Train Line Leaders. Schedule production workers on designated shift.
 
 
Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities
  1. Manage execution of production plan.
  2. Recruit and train people for Line Leader positions.
  3. Train and coach Line Leaders to operate production lines at higher speed, consistency and quality at all times.  Know at all times what efficiency the lines are running.
  • Supervise all production workers.
  1. Immediately address production line stoppages with Line Leaders in order to resume normal line operation as soon as possible.
  2. Ensure that production lines at least meet production standard rates and complete first case check at acceptable levels of quality.  Review of daily paperwork to ensure products meet spec and paperwork is filled out correctly.
  3. Schedule Line Leaders and Assemblers for all line assignments, overtime rework and vacation schedules.
  4. Coordinate production line changeovers, start up’s, and wash-outs including line clearance from the staffing, material and procedural standpoint.
  5. Manage crewing temporary to Northern Labs personnel.
  6. Assist Line Leaders in minor trouble-shooting and request Maintenance Technician support for mechanical production line problems.
  7. Ensure that all standard operating procedures are followed and appropriate personnel complete the necessary paperwork.
  8. Ensure that the production workplace is kept safe and orderly.
  9. Suggest improvements in production speed and quality.
  10. Notify the Production Management regarding any raw material or component quality problems.
  11. Review performance evaluations that are generated by the Line Leaders.  Ensure that proper production standards are met and reflected on the evaluation.
  12. Document and handle personnel issues to the best of ability before involving other managers.
  13. Attend daily meetings if Operations Manager is unable to attend.
  14. Investigate with Production Management and complete accident or incident reports with employees.
  15. Communicate with warehouse personnel on needed items or shortages to run production line.
  16. Set a good example as a leader.
  17. Control indirect labor.
  18. Approve timecards with labor hours weekly.
  19. Ensure accurate production reporting through PIN tickets and pallet sheets.
  20. Miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education / Certification / Qualifications / Experience
  • High school diploma
  • Associate Degree in Supervisory Management or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of manufacturing supervisory experience.
  • Light mechanical ability.
  • Experience with liquid filling lines preferred.
 
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
  • None.

  • Sit; reach above shoulders; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and use foot/feet to operate machine up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Stand; walk; and talk or hear 2/3 and more of the time.
  • Up to 25 pounds to be lifted or force to be exerted up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Up to 100 pounds to be lifted or force to be exerted 1/3 of the time.
  • Up to 10 pounds to be lifted or force to be exerted 2/3 and more of the time.
If position is to help out palletizer, may lift 50 pounds for up to 20 feet.
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point).
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).
 
 
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED:
  • Wrenches, fillers; cappers, labelers, coders, and conveyor belts up to 1/3 of the time.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PPE REQUIRED:
  • Risk of electrical shock; vibration up to 1/3 of the time.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts 2/3 and more of the time.
  • Loud noise.
  • Normal work on production lines and the sound of equipment running.
  • Safety glasses required.
  • Jacket, gloves, face shield and/or hairnet for some products.
