America250 Essay Contest Opportunity
Congressman Grothman is inviting Wisconsin students of the 6th Congressional District to share their voices and engage in civic discourse as we celebrate the nation's 250th birthday. This contest offers 6th-12th grade students of Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District a chance to engage deeply with our nation’s patriotic and democratic values while developing critical thinking and writing skills.
We ask that you communicate this opportunity to your community and encourage their participation. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to reflect on their values, develop necessary skillsets, and build their resumes.

CONTEST OVERVIEW
Who's Eligible: Students in grades 6 through 12 who live in Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District.
Essay Contest Groups
Group 1: 6th – 8th Grade Students
Group 2: 9th – 12th Grade Students
Essay Prompts
Group 1 (6th-8th): What makes our country strong and what can we do to strengthen it?
Group 2 (9th-12th): What do you value about our American Constitutional Republic and what are your hopes for its future?
Essay expectations: Student submissions should be single spaced, 12 pt font, not to exceed 750 words. The use of generative AI or large language models is strictly prohibited and can result in disqualification.

Submission Deadline: July 31st, 2026, at 11:59pm.

Essay Contest Prizes
The winner for each age division will receive an American flag flown over the US Capitol and their essay published in the Congressional Record and displayed in the Congressman’s Washington, DC, and Fond du Lac District offices.
