Manitowoc WI., March 20, 2025 – Ascend Services is thrilled to announce the sixth annual "Throw with All Your Heart" fundraiser, happening on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Tapped on the Lakeshore in Two Rivers. As one of the nonprofit organization’s signature events, every dollar raised will go directly toward supporting Ascend’s mission to empower individuals with all abilities.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Executive Director Deanna Genske shared, “Our very first 'Throw with All Your Heart' was held in February of 2020—just weeks before the world changed due to the pandemic. We’re so grateful to see this event thrive and reach its sixth year.”
This lively, team-based event will feature five thrilling competitions: axe throwing, golf, hammerschlagen, shuffleboard, and cornhole. A standout highlight of the day is the Celebrity Axe Throwing Competition, where seven local figures will go head-to-head. For just a $5 entry fee, attendees can challenge these local celebrities to a friendly competition and compete for ultimate bragging rights. Deanna added, “"The Celebrity Axe Throwing adds an element of fun and brings the community together while featuring familiar faces from Manitowoc County.
"This year’s celebrity lineup includes Mayor Justin Nickels, Troy Adams (General Manager of Manitowoc Public Utilities), Jason Latva (Executive Director of Lighthouse Recovery Community Center), Chad Beeman (City Alderman and local artist), Bob Seal (Senior Vice President of Nicolet National Bank), Todd Blaser (City of Manitowoc Fire Chief), and Alex Hunt (Executive Director of The Haven). To add an exciting twist, the celebrity who raises the most funds during their axe-throwing session will win a special prize, creating an extra incentive for them to rally supporters to the event.
In addition to the competitions, this year’s fundraiser introduces a silent auction, featuring enticing gift baskets and high-value prizes, as well as a Wine Pull. Favorites like the 50/50 raffle will also return, ensuring plenty of activities for attendees. Deanna shared, “We’ve worked hard to enhance the experience for our guests this year. We’re thrilled to add new games and prizes to keep things fresh and engaging.”
The event is hosted in partnership with Tapped on the Lakeshore, whose owner, Sam Busse, oversees the axe-throwing portion of the competition. Deanna expressed her gratitude for the collaboration, saying, “Tapped has been an incredible partner, welcoming us back year after year. Their generosity and support are invaluable to making this event a success.”
Serving over 200 youth and adults with disabilities in Manitowoc County, this fundraiser plays a vital role in supporting Ascend's mission to foster individual growth through community involvement, education, and employment opportunities.  Deanna concluded, “'Throw With All Your Heart' is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of community, inclusion, and the meaningful work we do at Ascend.”
