At the Manitowoc County Historical Society in January: Craft Night, Winter Weekend, and heritage skills workshops

Here's what is happening at the Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, in January:
  • Community Craft Night: Thursday, January 16 from 5 pm to 7 pm; Do you knit, crochet, sew, quilt, draw, paint, scrapbook, embroider, whittle, or anything else? Bring something to work on while you enjoy community engagement! Each month, you'll meet other crafters and artisans in your community, and maybe even pick up a new skill. Each month we will be bringing out a item from our archives collection to enjoy and inspire you in your own work! This program is free to attend.
  • Winter Weekend: Saturday, January 18 from 11 am to 3 pm; Explore all things cozy on this winter weekend including a guided nature walk, playing bird bingo, stop in the Tavern for tavern games and a warm drink, bring a book and join in a cozy read-a-thon at the Dress Shop (and see some of our favorite historic books), visit the Sorenson House to explore food traditions, and more. This program is made possible in part by Seehafer News. General admission.
  • Silk Ribbon Embroidery: Create-Connect Workshop: Saturday, January 18 from Noon to 3 pm; Silk ribbon has been used for needlework in Europe and Asia for centuries: in the United States, the tradition came with immigrants from France, England, and Germany. Try your hand at this elegant craft. Whether you are new to needle work or looking for a great place to start, silk ribbon embroidery is a great way to start! Learn how even the most basic stitches become works of art just by working with silk ribbon. All materials are included in the cost of the workshop. Advanced registration is required.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
