CESA 6 Youth Apprenticeship Awards Honor Three Manitowoc County Partners

CESA 6 proudly recognized three outstanding Manitowoc County partners at the Youth Apprenticeship Partner Awards held April 10 at La Sure's Hall.

These awards celebrate organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to developing the future workforce through hands-on learning, mentorship, and community collaboration.

Career Pathways Excellence Award
Manitowoc Public School District was honored with the Career Pathways Excellence Award, recognizing its outstanding support for a wide range of career pathways and meaningful youth apprenticeship experiences.

The district exemplifies how education and workforce development can successfully align. This year alone, it employed 26 youth apprentices across fields including construction, healthcare, education, and information technology. These opportunities allow students to gain real-world experience while refining their career goals. By investing directly in students, the district is strengthening both its future workforce and the broader community.

Community Unity Award
LDI Industries received the Community Unity Award for its exceptional commitment to community engagement and partnership.

Alongside FORCE America, LDI Industries has created an inclusive and supportive environment for youth apprentices by emphasizing mentorship, skill-building, and meaningful guidance. A standout leader in this work is Eric Haban, who began his own journey as a youth apprentice and now serves as a powerful role model. Through continued outreach and advocacy, these efforts are expanding access to youth apprenticeship and strengthening the local talent pipeline.

Exceptional Mentor Award
Manitowoc Tool and Manufacturing was recognized with the Exceptional Mentor Award, highlighting its dedication to developing young talent through impactful mentorship.

Training Coordinator Brandon Shedal has built a program that goes beyond technical instruction. Students not only gain skills in machining and tooling, but also engage in personalized learning experiences that connect to their individual interests. His intentional approach fosters confidence, growth, and a strong sense of belonging, ensuring each apprentice leaves prepared for future success.

Youth Apprenticeship is a statewide, work-based learning program that allows high school students to gain paid, hands-on experience in high-demand career fields while still in school. Students are paired with local employers and trained in real workplace settings while also completing related classroom instruction. The program helps students explore career pathways, develop professional skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, and build a strong foundation for either continued education or direct entry into the workforce after graduation. In Manitowoc County, Youth Apprenticeship continues to grow through strong partnerships between employers, schools, and the community.

Youth Apprenticeship in Manitowoc County is coordinated by Molly Stolp and Julie Nass, who work closely with local business partners and area schools, including Lincoln High School, Two Rivers High School, Roncalli High School, and Manitowoc Lutheran High School, to connect students with meaningful career experiences.

“These partners exemplify the power of youth apprenticeship to transform lives and strengthen communities,” said Molly Stolp. “Their dedication to mentorship, career exploration, and workforce development is making a lasting impact on students across the region.”
