Goodwill NCW celebrates National Thrift Shop Day all this month
August 17 is recognized as National Thrift Shop Day and Goodwill North Central Wisconsin (NCW) will make it a month-long secondhand celebration. Customers can continue to enjoy the “thrill of the hunt” like they do all year round, but will also encounter special “thrift month” promotions. Even better, while they search for unique, one-of-a-kind items, they will be supporting job programs that help individuals learn skills that can put them on a path to sustained employment and improved financial stability.
On average, 90 cents of each dollar goes back into our mission of “Elevating People by Eliminating Barriers to Employment”, impacting the communities that Goodwill NCW serves. In 2025:
- 81% of job seekers who secured employment were from disadvantaged populations, such as people with refugee status, people without housing, people who are justice-involved and people with a disability.
- Increased Program Participants collective annual income by more than $4.8 million.
- Provided nearly 5,400 skills trainings, with 84% meeting or exceeding their training goal.
“National Thrift Shop Day is a day to put the spotlight on shopping secondhand and all of the benefits of it. It promotes donating, reusing, re-wearing and restyling your clothes and other items”, said Julie Deming, Vice President of Retail Store Operations at Goodwill NCW. “Secondhand shopping not only saves money for consumers, but it also has a positive impact on the environment and our communities.”
Goodwill NCW stores are marking the occasion with special promotions including Goodwill NCW “Happy Hours” offer, August 17-22 where Good Points customers can earn double the points on their account from 5-9 p.m.
