Historical Society holds free teacher workshops

The Manitowoc County Historical Society will offer two opportunities for educators to learn more about our local history with free Teacher Workshops at the Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc. The workshops will be held on Wednesday, July 30 from 9 am to 12 Noon and Thursday, August 7 from 9 am to 12 Noon.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society’s 2025 Summer Teacher Workshops are FREE, half-day programs focused on history, art, and science. Educators will learn about ways to incorporate MCHS’ collections, the historic Pinecrest Village, and stories of our local history into their curriculum.
As part of the workshops, educators will learn about the Museum’s new opportunities for middle and high school students, meet MCHS Education team over breakfast and coffee (light breakfast provided!), and engage with teacher colleagues and friends. This year's workshop will focus on hands-on activities related to early transportation history, with a visit the Meeme House to hear how MCHS is interpreting Wisconsin’s history of the stage coach era and beyond. Educators will also learn about maps, directories and more local history resources , then browse items in the museum collection to hear how these primary and secondary sources can help your students.

The free workshops are open to any educators, homeschool partners, and interested community supporters. Advanced registration is required. To learn more information or to register, call (920) 684-4445 or visit ManitowocCountyHistory.org.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
