The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, has announced spring workshop dates for its Create-Connect. The Create-Connect workshop series focuses on sharing heritage skills with new audiences. Advanced registration is required and fee charged.
Wood Stove Basics and Sweet Treats will be held on Saturday, April 25 from Noon to 3 pm. Do you have a wood burning stove at home that you’d like to cook on, but have no prior knowledge of how to do it? Roll up your sleeves and make a sweet treat! Participants will learn the design of the woodstove and how to properly use it.
Coffee and Doughnuts Workshop will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 10 am to 1 pm. Learn how to roast your own coffee and fry your own doughnuts the 19th century way! Using historical techniques and ingredients, guests will get to make and eat their own brunch-time treats.
Blacksmithing Basics will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 12 Noon to 3 pm.
The class is designed to give someone with little or no metal working skills as a hands-on, fun “be a blacksmith for a day” experience. Explore the basics of forge work in a blacksmith shop while making a decorative “S” hook or a bottle opener to take home. Topics will include safety, tools and equipment, and beginning techniques for shaping metal. Small class size guarantees lots of one-on-one instruction and lots of time at the forge!
A wood-fired oven pretzels workshop will take place on Saturday, June 6 from 11 am to 3 pm. Guests will make pretzels and bake them. While the pretzels are baking, the mustards can be made.
Details for the workshops can be found at www.ManitowocCountyHistory.org. A full listing can also be found on the website. For more information or to register, visit the website or call (920) 684-4445. |

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.
Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family. The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
