Historical Society holds themed winter weekend, St. Patrick’s Day dinner, and ball on March 14

The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will hold a St. Patrick’s Day themed winter weekend, dinner, and ball on Saturday, March 14.

From 11 am to 3 pm, guests can take part in the monthly winter weekend program. Living history demonstrations and activities will focus on the celebration, heritage, and history of Irish immigrants and Fenians in Manitowoc County. The day will include wood stove cooking, a visit to the Print Office, and a visit with a few members of the Gibbon's Circle on issues important to their 19th century selves. The Winter Weekend day time admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children, and MCHS Members are free.

A historic meal will kick start the evening, with dining options at 5 pm and 6 pm. As part of the historical society’s historic dinner series, guests will be served a family style Irish-inspired meal (prepared by a local restaurant), and enjoy a choice of historically-inspired beverages. Advanced registration is required. Tickets for the dinner also include the St. Patrick’s Day ball.

The St. Patrick’s Day Ball will take place starting at 7 pm to 9:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Enjoy live Irish music with “Whiskey in Me Tay” and join in the dancing and learn traditional square, Cèilidh, polkas, and waltzes at the Meeme House’s second floor hall. Advanced registration is not needed for the ball. Admission for the ball, if not attending dinner, is $10 for adults and $5 for youth.
Refreshments are available throughout the evening in the Meeme bar room.
Whether you wear your favorite light up shamrock headband, green sweater, or 19th century ball gown - the ball is sure to be a good time. No experience necessary!

Historically, St. Patrick’s Day activities and balls were held at the historical village’s Meeme House. The community of Irish immigrants near Meeme, present day Osman, were proud of their heritage and their mother country. This heritage shines through in the formation of the “Gibbons Circle,” a organization formed under the Fenian Brotherhood of America. Learn what this organization represented for Irish Americans right here in Manitowoc County in the 1860s.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
