The Manitowoc County Historical Society, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will hold a wood stove cooking with kids workshop, as part of its Winter Weekend series on Saturday, February 14 from Noon to 2 pm
This basic woodstove cooking class is designed to get kids busy in the kitchen with kid-friendly recipes and hands-on tasks. Advanced registration is required for the workshop.
During the Winter Weekend, which takes place from 11 am to 3 pm, historic interpreters will share demonstrations and stories of the past in wood stove heated historic structures. Activities will focus on Victorian era romance including making a vintage valentine. Guests will explore old fashioned love notes including paper folding and scrap booking styles.
Discover the history and the joys of horse-drawn sleigh driving with an old-fashioned sleigh rally. Antique horse-drawn sleighs will converge on the museum’s Pinecrest Village for the sleigh rally, featuring drivers competing in a variety of categories at 1 pm. This is weather and condition dependent!
A historic meal will also take place at the site’s Meeme House at 11:30 am. Enjoy a 19th-century style meal, followed by tavern games. Dinner is by advanced registration only. A full menu can be found on the website.
Attendees can also join in an afternoon of sledding down the hill in the Niles Church hill! Bring your own sled for races down the hill or build a nature’s friend – a snowman complete with wildlife-friendly decorations. Embrace the winter by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. Bring your own snowshoes, skis, sleds.
MCHS is open for Winter Weekends from 11 am – 3 pm, on the second Saturday in January, February, and March. Enjoy these winter weekends by exploring a handful of historic buildings in the Village, embrace the winter by snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or sledding (bring your own snowshoes, skies, sleds), and enjoy the season! Please note, paths may be slippery and buildings will not be open, unless they are a part of that day’s programming.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.
Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family. The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
