Historical Society invites students, educators to “Home for the Holidays” field trip on November 24

The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, has announced a special field trip opportunity for students to discover holiday traditions of the past.

“Home for the Holidays” will take place on Tuesday, November 24, with sessions from 9 am to 11 am and from 12 Noon to 2 pm. Guided through the wintery Historic Village, interpreters will share 19th-century seasonal traditions and encourage students to make connections with their own experiences. This experience has six stops, each in a historic building bedecked in holiday decorations. This tour delivers a host of curriculum topics in a memorable way. Gather by the home fires of Pinecrest Village for crafts, storytelling, and music. Stations include music, games, 19th century baking, an interactive rendition of A Visit From Saint Nicholas, by Clement C. Moore, and more!

 

This program is open to all public, private, and home school students. Reservations are suggested one week before the program date, with final reservations 48 hours before the program begins (if not sold out prior). This program is for pre-registration only.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
