The Wisconsin history you read about in text books becomes a vibrant learning experience full of activities for students and teachers to see and do when you visit the Manitowoc County Historical Society. You can barter with the storekeeper, feel the heat from the blacksmith’s forge, set up a Civil War camp, play games with the local pioneer children, and help with the farm chores.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society provides a variety of opportunities for K12 classrooms, homeschool families and families wishing to take part in an ‘out of the box’ educational experience. In addition to a variety of classic tour options, there are also themed field trip days held throughout the year that are specifically designed with homeschool families and smaller groups in mind.
The first themed field trip of the year, History Detectives, will be held on Thursday, February 27 from 10 am to 2 pm. As you move through various stations, you will be given clues and resources to use to help answer your mystery of items from the past. Take on the role of a history detective (museum archivist) and help solve the history mystery!
Additional themed field trips held throughout the year will include: Our Wisconsin (April 24); The Long Road to Freedom and Emancipation (June 19); Civil War School Day (September 26); and History of Communication (October 23).
Advanced registration is required for all field trip programs. To learn more about classic and themed field trip opportunities, visit ManitowocCountyHistory.org or call (920) 684-4445.
