The Wisconsin history you read about in text books becomes a vibrant learning experience full of activities for students and teachers to see and do when you visit the Manitowoc County Historical Society. You can barter with the storekeeper, feel the heat from the blacksmith’s forge, set up a Civil War camp, play games with the local pioneer children, and help with the farm chores.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society provides a variety of opportunities for K12 classrooms, homeschool families and families wishing to take part in an ‘out of the box’ educational experience. In addition to a variety of classic tour options, there are also themed field trip days held throughout the year that are specifically designed with homeschool families and smaller groups in mind.
An upcoming themed field trip of the year, Our Wisconsin, will be held on Thursday, April 24 from 10 am to 2 pm. As you move through various stations, you will experience the world of Wisconsin's early immigrants. Step into the daily lives of the people who called our historic structures ‘home’, while learning their immigration story, ethnic traditions, and how they made their life here in America.
Additional themed field trips held throughout the year will include: The Long Road to Freedom and Emancipation (June 19); Civil War School Day (September 26); and History of Communication (October 23).
Advanced registration is required for all field trip programs. To learn more about classic and themed field trip opportunities, visit ManitowocCountyHistory.org or call (920) 684-4445.
