The Sorenson House is a cozy space during the winter weekends
The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will hold a Winter Weekend program on Saturday, January 18 from 11 am to 3 pm. Enjoy the winter weekend by exploring a handful of historic buildings in the Village, embrace the winter by snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or sledding, and enjoy the season!
The January Winter Weekend will focus on all things cozy. Program highlights include bird bingo, guided nature walk through the grounds, tavern games and hot beverages, a read-a-thon at the Sorenson House, food traditions on the woodstove, and historic books and activity in the Print Shop.
All program activities are included in general admission. Admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (age 62+), $10 for children age 4 to 17, and free for children under age 4. MCHS members receive free general admission.
The program will also include a Silk Ribbon Embroidery workshop, as part of the Create-Connect heritage skills series. The workshop takes place from Noon to 3 pm. The silk ribbon embroidery workshop will introduce you to several stitches popular in the 1800's and used in traditional embroidery. Learn how even the most basic stitches become works of art just by working with silk ribbon. Your workshop fee also includes general admission for the day! Advanced registration is required for the workshop.
Themed winter weekends will also take place on February 15 (Victorian era romance) and March 15 (fiber arts). Winter Weekends are made possible in part by Seehafer News.

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.
Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family. The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
