The Hunger Coalition of Manitowoc County has received a generous Betterment Grant from Corteva Agriscience on behalf of Forest Brook Seeds, a significant investment that will directly support the Coalition’s Harvest of the Month (HOM) initiative.

Forest Brook Seeds representatives presented the grant check at Grow It Forward, underscoring a shared commitment to improving food access and community health across Manitowoc County.

The grant funding will be immediately put to use to advance the Coalition's mission to collaboratively create solutions that increase food security and healthy food access. Specifically, the funds will support the purchase and distribution of fresh, seasonal produce, with the goal of reaching thousands of individuals served by local food pantries.

For October, the HOM initiative is spotlighting locally sourced apples, promoting the “Great Apple Crunch” and encouraging the use of seasonal produce through FoodWIse educational materials like recipes and preparation tips. The program is currently being implemented in multiple pantries across the county, aligning with the Coalition's core value of Collaboration to amplify impact.

The Hunger Coalition looks forward to documenting the success of the Harvest of the Month initiative throughout the fall and winter, including the purchase and distribution of Wilfert Farms carrots in November. This documentation will ensure the spirit of the program is captured for all partners and the wider community.
