Manitowoc County Historical Society offers program for families impacted by memory loss

The Manitowoc County Historical Society has released the calendar and information for its 2025 SPARK! series of programming. The SPARK! program is a free monthly program for individuals living with early-to-mid stage memory loss, their care partners, and family members. Participants are engaged in lively conversations, exhibit exploration, historic artifacts, and multi-sensory activities. The SPARK! program at the Manitowoc County Historical Society is made possible in part by generous support from Felician Village.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society has been a part of the SPARK! program since 2018 and is one in a network of over 50 cultural organizations across the United States implementing SPARK!.
SPARK! programs are held at the Manitowoc County Historical Society on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 am at the museum, 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc. The program will last approximately 60 to 90 minutes, with social time after the program topic.

Monthly programs in 2025 will include:

March 11:  The seasons are changing and we’ve got our Farmer’s Almanac at the ready. We’re looking at the seasons through motion and music.
April 8: How does your garden grow? Get ready for spring planting and discover the fascinating history of gardens throughout our history.
May 13:  What role did animals have in the Civil War? We will highlight our favorite animals while interacting with therapy dogs, and have the opportunity to try homemade dog treats (yummy for humans too).
June 10:  What did long travel days look like in the late 1800s? Today we look at Stagecoach Travel and the story of our Meeme House.
July 8: Our gardens are full of fruits and vegetables. How did people preserve their hard grown gardens without a refrigerator or canner?
August 12: Invite your family and friends to join us for our Summer SPARK! picnic. Music, food, games, and more!
September 9: Today we’re in the Blacksmith Shop. You’ll make your own piece with the help of our talented blacksmiths.
October 14: School is in session. Let’s gear up for our studies—starting with music!
November 11:  Join us as we play games and try our hand at puzzles.
December 9: The holidays are here and we’re excited to eat cookies and drink hot cocoa!

About the Manitowoc County Historical Society
Nestled in the scenic rolling Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside of Eastern Wisconsin, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a museum of living history. This 60-acre interpretive museum of local history features a Welcome Center with local history exhibits and research services and the outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village - a collection of over 25 historic buildings with period furnishings from Manitowoc County's early settlers.

Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 with a land donation from the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family.  The Village has grown to represent a reproduction of a small Wisconsin community during the early 1900s. The buildings form the commercial, social, and political core of a town and they represent several architectural styles of Wisconsin's history. The furnishings, items, and tools in the various buildings used by the Pinecrest Village interpreters are either original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
