Manitowoc, WI, July 17, 2025—Manitowoc Public Library’s August 2025 Adult Events are scheduled on the following dates and times.
 

ManitoWalk: Historic Downtown Walking Tour                    Monday, August 4, at 10-11:30 AM

Join library staff on Monday, August 4, at 10 AM as they explore the historic buildings on 8th Street in Downtown Manitowoc. Tours starts at Manitowoc Public Library outside by the flagpole. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to walking tour. For ages 18+. Space is limited! PLEASE NOTE: This is a walking tour of Downtown Manitowoc, and you will need to be able to withstand walking and standing for over an hour. ***In the event of inclement weather, this event will be canceled.
 
DWD Employment Assistance & Career Counseling                  Tuesdays in August, 9 AM-4 PM
The Department of Workforce Development staff is providing onsite services in MPL’s Franklin Street Room for both Employment Assistance and Career Counseling. Here are some of the specifics:
  • Drop-In Employment Assistance: Department of Workforce Development staff will provide onsite services, including resume writing, assistance with online applications, assistance registering in Job Center of Wisconsin, and more! No appointment needed.
  • Career Counseling: Dealing with a Job Loss or considering a Career Change? Career and Employment Counseling may help! Our licensed career counselor can assist with providing support and encouragement, assisting with the exploration of career and self-assessments, assisting with reviewing labor market information, removing and overcoming obstacles, and creating an individualized employment plan to help you turn your career vision into a reality. Our Career Counselor can also provide you with the tools, feedback and resources you need to be successful in your job search. Genealogy Help with the Genealogical Society                                Tuesdays in August, 3-5 PM
Members of the Manitowoc County Genealogical Society can be found in MPL’s Manitowoc Collection every Tuesday from 3-5 PM to help people with their genealogy research.
 

National Night Out at Manitowoc Public Library                         Tuesday, August 5, 6-7:30 PM

Join MPL and Manitowoc Police Department at the Library for National Night Out! This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Activities Include:
  • Learn about crime prevention and family safety
  • Make a child ID kit
  • Meet a police officer
  • See police and fire vehicles
  • Watch a K9 demonstration
  • Watch a drone demonstration
  • Visit with local 4-H members and meet their project animals
 

Shipwreck Detectives with Wisconsin Maritime Museum           Wednesday, August 6, 2-3 PM

Ahoy, aspiring Shipwreck Detectives! Set sail on a thrilling adventure into Wisconsin's maritime history in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room. Uncover the secrets of Lake Michigan's shipwrecks through engaging hands-on activities. Explore maritime archaeology techniques and sharpen your critical thinking as you solve some of the Lake's greatest mysteries during the All-Ages event.
 
Drop-In Chess Club @ MPL                                                       Wednesday, August 6, 6-7:30 PM
Want to improve your memory and concentration or practice logical thinking skills? Make a smart move and join us for Drop-In Chess Club at Manitowoc Public Library’s Second Floor Balkansky Community Room from 6-7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 6! The game of chess offers many brainy benefits—and it's just fun! Those of all abilities and ages (6-years plus, please) are welcome, but staff will not offer formal instruction. Chessboards are provided and library materials are available for further learning. No registration is required, but please remember that children under the age of 8 (even prodigies!) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
 
Glowforge Badging Session                                                             Friday, August 8, 2-3:30 PM
Join us in the Idea Box makerspace for a demonstration of our Glowforge on August 8. The Glowforge uses a laser to engrave designs into different material types like acrylic and wood. Library Staff will show you how to use our Glowforge and upon completion of the training, you'll be "Badged" so you can use the Glowforge at your leisure. Space is limited and registration is required. Registration opens on Wednesday, July 30, at 9 PM. Now Showing at MPL: A Minecraft Movie                               Saturday, August 9, 10 AM-12 PM

Four misfits get pulled through a portal into the cubic Overworld and must embark on a quest to get back to the real world with the help of an "expert crafter"—the one-and-only Steve. Can they do it? Can they make it back!? There's only one way to find out and that's by attending this special Saturday morning screening of "Biw Showing at MPL!" Join us in the Balkansky Community Room for an early showing of A Minecraft Movie (2025, PG, 1hr 41min), starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, on Saturday, August 9, from 10 AM-12 PM. Sounds like a great way to kick off the weekend to us! Best of all, admission is FREE!!!

Go Wild at the Library!                                                               Wednesday, August 13, 2-3 PM

Get ready for a roaring good time at the Library! Join Zookeeper Vicki Rathsack, on Wednesday, August 13, from 2-3 PM on Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room as she brings some special critters from Manitowoc's Lincoln Park Zoo. You'll learn all about these fantastic creatures and have the chance to interact up close. Don't miss out on this wild adventure!
