Wednesday, September 17, 6-8 PM
"Tales from the Taproom" returns for another evening of revelations and fun at a microbrewery known for camaraderie and shenanigans. It doesn't get a whole lot better than that! Everyone has a story to tell! Why not tell yours? No props, no notes. Just five minutes and a true, personal favorite story. The important thing to remember is that this is an evening of true storytelling—not stand-up comedy, not poetry, not a platform for political manifestos or lectures, or doing a reading from an as-of-yet published post-apocalyptic neo-tribal zombie/cyborg saga. It’s a true story zone. This time around, we're adding a special twist—we'll be moving things from the indoor taproom to the outdoor beer garden for an evening of open-air storytelling! Which, not surprisingly, leads directly to the theme for this evening at PetSkull Brewing Company sponsored by Seehafer News from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, September 17—"The Great Outdoors!" That's right, folks. We're leaving things fairly wide open. The only required element is that whatever story you tell it has to have taken place outside. An outdoor concert experience, an amazing back porch evening with friends, a hike with an unexpected twist. Anything that you feel comfortable telling that took place al fresco! And as this is an Adults-Only event, nothing is off limits—if you're willing to tell it, it's a story worth hearing. You don’t have to come to “The Taproom” to tell a story—you can come to just listen and enjoy. However, should you want to step up to the mic to share a story that fits in with the evening’s theme, please note that sign-up begins at 5:30 PM and we’ll fit in as many stories as possible during the allotted time. Five minutes may seem like a lot of time, but it goes by quickly. So, know your story well! We can't wait to hear your story at "Tales from the Taproom!"
Adult Book Discussion: James, by Percival Everett Thursday, September 18, 6-7 PM
A brilliant reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from the enslaved Jim's point of view. When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond. If a daring new vision of classic American literature piques your interest, meet fellow book lovers for an engaging conversation in MPL’s Second Floor Board Room from 6-7 PM on Thursday, September 18. Pick up your copy of “James” near the First Floor’s Service Desk.Paranormal Wisconsin—Tales of Ghosts, UFOs, & Mysterious Creatures with Chad Lewis
Thursday, September 18, 6-7 PMThis presentation—taking place in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room from 6-7 PM on Thursday, September 18—is an eerie combination of the most bizarre paranormal topics. I have combined my strangest cases of alien abductions, haunted places, mysterious creatures, crop circles, and everything else weird and unusual. This program covers the entire spectrum of Wisconsin's supernatural activity. For over two decades, Chad Lewis has traveled the backroads of the world in search of the strange and unusual. Chad has been featured on the Discovery Channel’s A Haunting, William Shatner's Weird or What and The UnXplained, and ABC's Scariest Places on Earth, along with being a frequent contributor on Ripley's Believe it or Not Radio. With a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Chad has authored over twenty books in the strange and unusual. The more bizarre the legend, the more likely it is that you will find Chad there.
