Manitowoc, WI, July 17, 2025—Manitowoc Public Library’s Teen Services August 2025 programming is scheduled with the following events and dates:

 

Teen Hang-Out: Wild Side Selfies!    Friday, August 1, 1-2 PM

Have a wild selfie session with a choice of backdrops, a lighting rig, and the reptilian co-star of your choice. Bring your best look and your phone or other picture-taking device to Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room on Friday, August 1, from 1-2 PM. A trained handler will be present to ensure the safety of both people and animals. Photo opportunities will have a five-minute maximum. Groups welcome! First come, first served.

 

National Night Out at Manitowoc Public Library      Tuesday, August 5, 6-7:30 PM

Join MPL and Manitowoc Police Department at the Library for National Night Out! This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Activities Include:

• Learn about crime prevention and family safety

• Make a child ID kit

• Meet a police officer

• See police and fire vehicles

• Watch a K9 demonstration

• Watch a drone demonstration

• Visit with local 4-H members and meet their project animals

 

Shipwreck Detectives with Wisconsin Maritime Museum       Wednesday, August 6, 2-3 PM

Ahoy, aspiring Shipwreck Detectives! Set sail on a thrilling adventure into Wisconsin's maritime history in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room. Uncover the secrets of Lake Michigan's shipwrecks through engaging hands-on activities. Explore maritime archaeology techniques and sharpen your critical thinking as you solve some of the Lake's greatest mysteries during the All-Ages event.

 

Drop-In Chess Club @ MPL            Wednesday, August 6, 6-7:30 PM

Want to improve your memory and concentration or practice logical thinking skills? Make a smart move and join us for Drop-In Chess Club at Manitowoc Public Library’s Second Floor Balkansky Community Room from 6-7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 6! The game of chess offers many brainy benefits—and it's just fun! Those of all abilities and ages (6-years plus, please) are welcome, but staff will not offer formal instruction. Chessboards are provided and library materials are available for further learning. No registration is required, but please remember that children under the age of 8 (even prodigies!) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

 

Teen Hang-Out: Sundae Funday!    Friday, August 8, 2-3 PM

Summer is ending. Eat your feelings in a big bowl of ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla ice cream, add-ins, syrups, and sprinkles provided. Isn't the real treasure the ice cream we ate along the way? Registration is required for this event and please, due to the nature of what will be transpiring, please indicate any and all food allergies. Now Showing at MPL: A Minecraft Movie Saturday, August 9, 10 AM-12 PM

Four misfits get pulled through a portal into the cubic Overworld and must embark on a quest to get back to the real world with the help of an "expert crafter"—the one-and-only Steve. Can they do it? Can they make it back!? There's only one way to find out and that's by attending this special Saturday morning screening of "Biw Showing at MPL!" Join us in the Balkansky Community Room for an early showing of A Minecraft Movie (2025, PG, 1hr 41min), starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, on Saturday, August 9, from 10 AM-12 PM. Sounds like a great way to kick off the weekend to us! Best of all, admission is FREE!!!

 

Go Wild at the Library!        Wednesday, August 13, 2-3 PM

Get ready for a roaring good time at the Library! Join Zookeeper Vicki Rathsack, on Wednesday, August 13, from 2-3 PM on Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room as she brings some special critters from Manitowoc's Lincoln Park Zoo. You'll learn all about these fantastic creatures and have the chance to interact up close. Don't miss out on this wild adventure!
