Manitowoc Public Library Youth Services August 2025 Programs
Manitowoc, WI, July 17, 2025—Manitowoc Public Library’s August 2025 Children’s Programs are scheduled with the following events and dates:
Storytime on the Road/Rahr-West Art Museum! Friday, August 1, 10:00 AM
Storytime is hitting the road one last time for the summer! Join us for stories, songs and artsy fun at Rahr-West Art Museum on Friday, August 1, at 10 AM. Bring chairs or blankets to enjoy a family storytime for families with preschoolers on the lawn, followed by an art activity inside lead by museum staff. In case of inclement weather, we will relocate to inside the museum. Storytime focuses on concepts such as life skills, counting, colors, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. It's a great opportunity to meet new friends, socialize, and strengthen early literacy skills. Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 2-5 and siblings are always welcome. All Storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Registration is not required.
National Night Out at Manitowoc Public Library Tuesday, August 5, 6-7:30 PM
Join MPL and Manitowoc Police Department at the Library for National Night Out! This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Activities Include:- Learn about crime prevention and family safety
- Make a child ID kit
- Meet a police officer
- See police and fire vehicles
- Watch a K9 demonstration
- Watch a drone demonstration
- Visit with local 4-H members and meet their project animals
Baby Storytime Wednesdays (August 6 & 13) & Thursdays (August 7 & 14), 9:30 AM
Baby Storytime is 20 minutes of stories, songs, rhymes, bounces, parachute activities, and bubbles, followed by 20 minutes of playtime! Baby Storytime is recommended for developmental ages 0-2 and siblings are always welcome. All Library storytimes are inclusive and welcoming. You are encouraged to attend the storytime that best meets your family's developmental needs. Registration is not required. Please Note: Baby Storytime will be on a short break August 17-30.
Preschool Storytime Wednesdays (August 6 & 13) & Thursdays (August 7 & 14), 10:30 AM
Join us in singing, talking, reading, creating, and playing at this inclusive Storytime for families with preschoolers. Shipwreck Detectives with Wisconsin Maritime Museum Wednesday, August 6, 2-3 PM
Ahoy, aspiring Shipwreck Detectives! Set sail on a thrilling adventure into Wisconsin's maritime history in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room. Uncover the secrets of Lake Michigan's shipwrecks through engaging hands-on activities. Explore maritime archaeology techniques and sharpen your critical thinking as you solve some of the Lake's greatest mysteries during the All-Ages event.Drop-In Chess Club @ MPL Wednesday, August 6, 6-7:30 PM
Want to improve your memory and concentration or practice logical thinking skills? Make a smart move and join us for Drop-In Chess Club at Manitowoc Public Library’s Second Floor Balkansky Community Room from 6-7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 6! The game of chess offers many brainy benefits—and it's just fun! Those of all abilities and ages (6-years plus, please) are welcome, but staff will not offer formal instruction. Chessboards are provided and library materials are available for further learning. No registration is required, but please remember that children under the age of 8 (even prodigies!) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Now Showing at MPL: A Minecraft Movie Saturday, August 9, 10 AM-12 PM
Four misfits get pulled through a portal into the cubic Overworld and must embark on a quest to get back to the real world with the help of an "expert crafter"—the one-and-only Steve. Can they do it? Can they make it back!? There's only one way to find out and that's by attending this special Saturday morning screening of "Biw Showing at MPL!" Join us in the Balkansky Community Room for an early showing of A Minecraft Movie (2025, PG, 1hr 41min), starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, on Saturday, August 9, from 10 AM-12 PM. Get ready for a roaring good time at the Library! Join Zookeeper Vicki Rathsack, on Wednesday, August 13, from 2-3 PM on Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room as she brings some special critters from Manitowoc's Lincoln Park Zoo. You'll learn all about these fantastic creatures and have the chance to interact up close. Don't miss out on this wild adventure!Manitowoc Public Library
